Sleep Plays a Critical Role in Your Fitness Plan

When most people embark their new fitness journey they focus on working out and eating right, but many times they neglect one of the most important things in fitness which is sleep. Nutrition and working out will only get you so far, but without getting the proper amount of sleep per night, you are sacrificing your fitness results. You will get much better results from your workout program if you incorporate proper sleep daily. For most people proper sleep consists of getting 7-8 hours per night.

Here are a few reasons why getting proper sleep is so important:

  • Muscle repair and recovery
  • Growth hormone is released while you sleep and this helps you gain more muscle
  • Exercise performance improves
  • Concentration and focus improves
  • Helps prevent injuries
  • Gives you energy throughout the day

Tips on how to make sure you get proper sleep:

  • Set up a routine and go to bed at the same time everyday
  • Eliminate daytime naps because they will prevent you from sleeping at night
  • Make the room pitch black by covering the windows and alarm clock, the darker the room is the better quality of sleep you will get
  • Don’t oversleep and just wake up at the same time everyday
  • Don’t eat a large meal right before bed
  • Don’t exercise right before bed
  • Don’t drink a lot of water before bed
  • Just relax and forget any worries you may have, tomorrow is another day

Remember to always get your proper sleep every night, your muscles will thank you for it!
